How a booking for a sax player and DJ turned into something far more special
I wanted to tell you all about one of my favourite nights this year. A client got in touch to book a saxophonist and a DJ for a luxury VIP event at Pavyllon in Mayfair, part of the Four Seasons Hotel.
Why I swapped the DJ for a singer
After listening to her brief, I had an idea. I thought it would be extra special to have a singer instead of a DJ, so I suggested my sax and singer duo. She loved it, and I'm so glad she did.
We took her guests on a journey. The night opened with smooth vocals and laid-back pop, including Michael Bublé hits. It moved on to Ibiza sax repertoire over dinner, with the cool, sophisticated feel of a Mykonos dinner. It finished with a mind-blowing party set, with sax and singer together.
There are so many lovely ways to use this line-up, from a room reveal with the saxophonist and singer on stage welcoming your guests, to background music as they arrive, and all the way to the ultimate party where partying is the only option. Here is how the evening looked, in three parts.
The Evening in Three Parts
Part 1Guest arrival
The first impression sets the tone for the whole night, so there are two ways to do it.
Such incredible vocals, showcasing the true depth and range of his voice. This is taken from one of his stage productions, and the repertoire is tailored for your event.
A sample of solo repertoire to welcome your guests
Here is a sample of the solo repertoire sung by this incredible West End singer to welcome your guests: a sophisticated background set of about 30 minutes.
- Better Together — Jack Johnson
- I’m Yours — Jason Mraz
- Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay — Otis Redding
- My Girl — The Temptations
- Crazy — Gnarls Barkley
- Your Song — Elton John
- The Way You Make Me Feel — Michael Jackson
- Superstition — Stevie Wonder
The dinner
Once everyone is seated, the mood shifts to Ibiza sax: the ultra-cool, sophisticated feel of a Mykonos dinner. The saxophone performs to backing tracks, in two 20-minute sets. If you choose Option 1 and the sax plays for the room reveal, this becomes just one set.
What Sarah played on sax at dinner
The dinner set, performed by Sarah on sax, included:
- Jubel — Klingande
- Havana — Camila Cabello
- Dance Monkey — Tones and I
- Rolling in the Deep — Adele
- Happy — Pharrell Williams
- Mr. Saxobeat — Alexandra Stan
- One Last Time — Ariana Grande
- Ibiza Chill Remixes — Various Artists
The after party
Then comes a 30-minute immersive party set, and this really is a party like none other. Not many people can pull this off, but this duo can, and they never disappoint. The chairs become the stage, the guests become the dancers and the backing vocalists, and you know the drill. If you are ready to party, you will have the time of your life.
The after party set list
A taste of what the party set can include:
- Everybody — Backstreet Boys
